The Mystery of Disappointment

June 11, 2016

The golf-n-gator home owners didn’t accept our contingent offer. Having been burned before, apparently, they just couldn’t get on board with waiting for our house to sell before they could sell theirs - even though their house had been on the market many months.

But, we understood. There was just nothing else we could do, except hope that we’d get an offer on our house so that we could move forward.

So, we wait. And wait some more.

Today, we had our first Open House. We’d been cleaning and staging like maniacs leading up to it. The pressure to get this house sold is mounting, especially because another house hangs in the balance. But, we walked out the door at 12:30 and stayed gone 3 hours feeling hopeful, excited even. Having an Open House is surely more progress than NOT having an Open House. Right?

ZERO ACTIVITY! No one came! All that work, all that time… and nothing! We couldn’t blame the weather (it was a beautiful Saturday) or the agent (it was publicized) or anything. It just failed. Plain and simple.

It was a house-sized pill to swallow!

Just because we want something to happen, doesn’t mean it will.

And EVERYTHING works on God’s timeline, not ours. It's a great, often frustrating mystery!

At every stage of this, we’re reminded of these truths, and I suppose it’s a good thing, though not an easy thing. We live in a instant-gratification-world. We have Siri and Alexa and Google awaiting our commands. Our wants and needs are a click away. Waiting just isn’t trending. *Smirk*

Still, God has His reasons to make us wait. He must, right?

It’s hard to see beyond the failed open house or the denied offer. So, we mope, a little. And wait for God to do His thing.

"The eyes of all look expectantly to You,

And You give them their food (and houses) in due season.

You open Your hand

And satisfy the desire of every living thing."

Psalm 145:15-16(NKJV)
