Fear and Faith Mysteries

May 1, 2016

I’m being invaded by FEARS like I’m exposed wood and they’re an army of termites ready to chomp down on me. Yep. The fears are running amok.

We've made the Big Decision to move. We've told the family, our friends. And while there've been moments of calm and joy, the stress cycle continues. Now, it's all FEAR.

The BIGGEST immediate fear is that with all that’s going on, something slips through the cracks, like Abby’s artwork that almost didn’t make it on to the coasters and mugs we ordered. I have two children about to graduate from their schools. The devil’s in the details.

The BIGGEST overall fear is that we go through all this to end up hating it or that it’s nothing like we expect. I picture the Griswolds showing up at Wally World to find the place locked up tight - closed. The shock of that disappointment caused Clark to resort to criminal behavior. It might do the same to us! Most of all, though, I fear for Abby. What if we pick the wrong school? What if she hates it? What if she doesn’t make friends or all the kids are little jerks? (you never know).

My BIGGEST ridiculous fear is moving into a house that has a gator living under it or nearby in a ditch and our lives become agoraphobic. Snakes, too.

My BIGGEST non-ridiculous, but statistically unlikely, fear is that something horrible happens. Fill in the blanks. The fears are endless in this category.

Joe and I didn’t want fears keeping us out of God’s plan. And they aren’t. Course, that doesn’t mean they’re not there.

God wants good things for us and God wants us to do this. Don’t know why. Doesn’t really matter.

Our fears surrender to our faith.

God has already marked a path for us to follow. All we have to do is take it, believing He knows what He’s doing and He’ll get us where we need to be. I may be tied up in fears, but God fluffs off fears.

When I get over myself, break free from the fear-spin I’m on, I see the adventure before us. A God-adventure. A grand mystery! What could be better than that?

"Save your fear for God, who holds your entire life—body and soul—in his hands."

Matthew 10:28 MSG
